CFP for Turner Symposium At Stellenbosch University

Keynote speaker: Peter Versteeg, Co-ordinator of VISOR (Vrije Universiteit Institute for the Study of Religion, Culture and Society), Amsterdam.
Anthropologists and other interested researchers are invited to participate in the symposium by short presentations on the relevance of Turner’s work for their research and writing.
The symposium is presented by
- the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, Stellenbosch University (staff and postgraduate students are participating); and
- the Department of Culture, Organization and Management of the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam (5 representatives are participating).
Abstracts (about 500 words) for short presentations on the work of Turner and its relevance for interpretations of ritual, religion and social life should be submitted to Harry Wels, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam at h.wels@fsw.vu.nl, before 15 October 2009.
The symposium will be held at Stellenbosch University, South Africa on the morning and afternoon of Monday 26 October and the morning of Tuesday 27 October.
No registration costs. Tea, coffee and a light lunch will be provided on both days.
Venue: Room 401, Arts and Social Sciences Building, Corner of Merriman and Ryneveld Streets, Stellenbosch.
