Dr. Alister Munthali is a medical anthropologist working at the Centre for Social Research of the University of Malawi. He is an Associate Professor of Research and Director of the Centre for Social Research. He holds a PhD in anthropology from Rhodes University and a Masters degree in medical anthropology from University of Amsterdam. Over the last 20 years he has been involved in the development of strategic plans and policies for organisations and Government ministries and Departments in several African countries. He has also supported several African countries in the development of proposals to multilateral funding agencies such as GAVI and Global Fund. He has also compiled reports for Governments for submission to UN agencies. For example he has been involved in the compilation of UNGASS and Global AIDS reports for the Government of Malawi through the National AIDS Commission. His main research interests include medical anthropology, disability and development, sexual and reproductive health and the social and cultural aspects of public health.
