Rukariro (Rockie) is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. His previous research topics have been the role of traditional leadership in contemporary rural life for employment (Honours), and an ethnography on blind beggars (Masters). His current research topic is cultural tourism and the impacts on the cultures of rural host communities. Rockie’s passion is to contribute to the evolution of Anthropology as a discipline, and to help raise the profile and role anthropology still has to play, in contemporary post-revolutionary southern Africa. His interests include rural development, cultural, medical, and social anthropology.
